I'm dreaming of a white kitchen...........

Snowy winter has set in Boulder and its only September. It’s a good day to have a seat and write a blog.

Lately, I’ve had a lot of clients request to have their cabinets painted, even more so with CO-VID stirring everybody’s desire for a little change in their homes or to simply brighten up their space. To paint or not to paint? If your cabinets are in good shape, absolutely! Will the paint cover oak cabinets? You bet! Are you planning to move soon and need a little updating to sell your home, paint your cabinets, it is much cheaper than replacing them.

White cabinetry can add a cheerful note to an otherwise bland or out of date kitchen. White continues to dominate the globe from traditional shaker cabinetry to modern high gloss cabinetry. While also adding some new kitchen knobs and handles, your kitchen can be completely transformed. Don’t want to hire it out? DIY? A little elbow grease and a long weekend, it can be done, remember to prime first, two coats. Look into the hinges before you start to be sure you can replace these with something new to go along with your “new” kitchen.

Why not mix it up, try painting your upper cabinets white and your lowers another color, say green or blue. Don’t be afraid to do a custom color, matching a color in your drapery or fabric on your chairs, it can be done, be sure to keep track of your custom color match in case your need touch ups down the road. Take note of your natural lighting, if your kitchen is on the small-side, I would suggest painting all of your cabinets one color, preferably white as your space will open up and appear much larger and be sure to choose a good paint company for assistance.

Tip:

Removing a couple upper door cabinets and replacing them with glass, this too will open up the space.
